Sweet Evening Breeze

BACKGROUND:

Sweet Evening Breeze, Inc. is a Louisville-based organization dedicated to addressing houselessness among Louisville’s LGBTQ+ young adults.

THE NEWS:

Sweet Evening Breeze, Inc. set up an on-site outreach station in downtown Louisville to provide free lunch, hygiene kits and safe sex kits to houseless individuals on the streets. This outreach effort serviced more than 35 individuals from within a one-mile radius, helping the organization’s staff establish trust and rapport with homeless populations in at-risk areas in Louisville.

WHY IT MATTERS:

• Sweet Evening Breeze is providing crucial resources through expanded outreach to engage more individuals who are struggling to access help
• Concurrently, the organization increased the number of hours it provides mental health support, free HIV testing and drop-in programs at its on-site office. In addition, they continue to conduct pop-up outreach one to two times a week.

IMPACT AREAS:

This program addressed the Humana Foundation’s focus areas of creating healthy, emotional connections (minority populations) by launching a pop-up site that services houseless individuals in Louisville and equity in health services (health services, including prevention, to underserved population) by providing essential items to an underserved LGBTQ+ community.

WHAT’S NEXT:

As Sweet Evening Breeze builds trusts with clients and program participants, the organization is committed to creating safe and caring spaces for the LGBTQ+ community in which individuals can access housing resources, receive mental support services, utilize drop-in services and participate in conversations to foster understanding around any personal issue.
