Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute for Texas

Meadows Mental Health

BACKGROUND:

The Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute for Texas is a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing the quality, accessibility and outcomes of mental health care throughout the state.

THE NEWS:

From December 2022 – May 2023, the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute undertook a significant initiative in mental health education. Through its Trauma and Grief Center (TAG), they conducted six learning collaboratives in Trauma and Grief Component Therapy (TGCT), successfully training 250 clinicians and more than 1,600 other professionals in various trauma and grief areas.

WHY IT MATTERS:

  • By providing comprehensive training, the Institute enables a greater number of professionals to effectively address trauma and grief in children in adolescents.

  • To date, clinicians trained through the grant have evaluated 347 youth-aged patients and enrolled them in appropriate treatment plans.

IMPACT AREAS:

This program addressed the Humana Foundation’s focus areas of creating healthy emotional connections (school-aged kids) by providing extensive training on trauma and grief-related topics. These measured outcomes contribute directly to combatting loneliness and promoting mental health equity among youth patients.

WHAT’S NEXT:

In the upcoming year, TAG plans to conduct additional learning collaboratives with the objective of training 400 national clinicians in Grief Component Therapy (TGCT) or Multidimensional Grief Component Therapy.
