Shirley Frazier honored for volunteerism by Metro United Way

Shirley may have been surprised, but her teammates were not when she won not one, but two community awards from Metro United Way.

Shirley Frazier, Senior Culture and Engagement Professional in Retail, demonstrated a shared purpose we have at Humana of helping others, and her efforts were recognized in Metro United Way's 2nd annual Community Impact Awards as she was presented the 2021 Sullivan Service Award, named after MUW former Master Community Builder Mary Sullivan, and the Community Hero Award.

The Community Impact Awards celebrate and recognize the extraordinary companies, organizations, and individuals who make significant contributions to improving lives in our communities.

Award presenter Mary Sullivan shared how Shirley overcame COVID-19 challenges to continue her mission of giving Louisville students needed back-to-school supplies including backpacks, healthy snack kits, and tie-knot blankets. Shirley also drove an effort through her place of worship, Westwood Presbyterian Church, to supply thousands of books for Little Free Libraries across the city.

Despite social distancing hurdles, Mary said Shirley found ways to give to local families and ensure they had what they needed to have happy, healthy lives when so many needed extra help.

“Congratulations on winning not one, but two awards on Wednesday at the Metro United Way Community Impact Awards!  Your dedication, in a year that presented new challenges for us all, is inspiring,” said Humana Foundation CEO Walter Woods. “On behalf of The Humana Foundation team,  thank you for your hard work and dedication in making sure that students and their families had what they needed for this to be a successful school year. Your generosity and giving spirit is an exemplar for the rest of the Humana Community!”
