Investing in Our Children

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a department of Scholarship America. Scholarship America is a national nonprofit educational support and student aid service organization. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, disability, or national origin.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Humana Foundation Scholarship Program must be:

• Dependent children*, age 25 and under, of full-time and part-time** Humana associates in the United States or Puerto Rico who have a minimum of three years continuous employment with the company as of the application deadline date. Associates from companies recently acquired by Humana must have at least one year of service with Humana in addition to two years prior service with the previous employer – totaling three years of continuous employment.
  
  
• High school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the United States that will lead to an academic degree.
  
  

*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the associate's household or primarily supported by the associate.

**A part-time associate with an average of at least 20 hours per week for the last three years is eligible.

Children of officers of Humana Inc. or its subsidiaries are ineligible to apply to the program.

Awards

One of the objectives of the selection committee is to achieve a fair and geographical distribution of awards, particularly in areas where there is a large Humana associate presence.

• Up to seventy-five (75) scholarships will be awarded each year.
  
  
• Beginning with the fall semester of 2008, the amount of awards granted to children of full-time associates will increase from $2,500 to $3,000.
  
  
• Beginning with the fall semester of 2008, the amount of awards granted to children of part-time associates will increase from $1,250 to $1,500.
  
  
• Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor's degree is earned, whichever occurs first.
  
  
• Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by The Humana Foundation.
  
  
• Recipients must enroll in a full-time course of study no later than the fall of the year following the awarding of the scholarship.
  
  
• Awards are to be used for tuition, fees, books, room and board, or other related educational expenses.
  
  
• Awards are for undergraduate study only.
  
  

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, goals and aspirations stated in the application, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal as detailed in the scholarship application. Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or associate of Humana or The Humana Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision of Scholarship America as final.

Applicants will be notified by early April. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Humana Foundation. Payments are made in equal installments on August 15 and December 30. Checks are mailed to each recipient's home address and are made payable jointly to the student and the school and must be endorsed by both.

Obligation

Recipients have no obligation to Humana or The Humana Foundation. They are, however, required to supply Scholarship America with complete transcripts when requested and to notify Scholarship America of any changes of address, school enrollment, or other relevant information.

Revisions

The Humana Foundation reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time, including termination of the program.
