Humana HEALThE SchoolsSM
HEALThE stands for Healthy Environment & Active Lifestyles Through Education. With this initiative, Humana and The Humana Foundation have joined forces to help Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville, Ky., develop two healthy elementary schools and to answer the question: "What does it take to make kids healthy?"
About the Initiative
Humana HEALThE Schools are schools that partner with The Humana Foundation to support student health. Humana HEALThE Schools use the Humana HEALThE Schools Website to encourage students to be more aware of the daily choices that influence their health.
In particular, Humana HEALThE Schools will encourage every participant to do the following each day:
- Eat breakfast
- Consume five servings of non-starchy fruits and vegetables
- Avoid sugary sodas, drinks, and food
- Be moderately to vigorously active for an hour
- Spend less than two hours sedentary in front of a screen (T.V, computer, video game)
- Take 10,000 steps a day
The Humana HEALThE Schools Website includes a HEALThE Diary page and a HEALThE Report Card page. Schools use data obtained through the Website to monitor their school's progress in achieving a healthy student body. Schools can also use information to select or modify school health programs and to apply for school health grants.
